The Law of Entropy and the God Who Heals

Ever since I was young I thought it interesting that it takes so little effort to destroy a bedroom, yet so much more effort to clean it up - to put everything back in its place! Even as a boy, I was aware of the ease with which destruction and chaos came. I transitioned this way of thinking to the physical state of the world - how it is so easy to destroy the environment with which we live, yet it could take so much effort to put things back the way they were. What I didn't realize as a boy, I realize now as a science teacher the 2nd Law of Thermodynamics - The Law of Entropy. If your really curious watch the 8 minute BBC clip below...

In a nutshell, it explains that within the world that we live, the chances of disorder are much more likely than the chances of order. For example, it is very improbable (although not impossible!) for a pile of sand on a beach to randomly arrange itself, due to wind and other natural process, as a sand castle. However, chances are incredibly high for an already built sand castle to randomly disassemble itself!

It's not difficult to see the pain and suffering in the world. In such a connected and aware society, it's so easy to be in-tune with the destruction and chaos all around. It would take such little effort for me to go to some major news media outlet and immediately become face-to-face with poverty, hunger, injustice, etc.

We may be tempted to wonder,

What hope is there for me? My family? The world around me?

This is where the mystery and the magnificence of the Gospel really shows itself. You see... to say the Gospel is good news is correct, but doesn't quite serve it justice. The Gospel is more than that...

"The Gospel is the message of the effective reversal of all negative ramifications of the fall through faith in the death, burial, and resurrection of Jesus Christ!" - P. Benjamin Robinson

And the part we play in this is incredibly vital! Christ came and began the work for us, showed us how to take back the kingdom, to speak forth life rather than death, order instead of destruction. Many of us don't take seriously James 15:16, "...the prayer of a righteous man is powerful and effective". It is time for our faith to rise up as Christians, and for us to take our proper place where we belong - above the prince of this world!

Love you mom!
This past summer my mother was diagnosed with nasopharyngeal carcinoma, the very same cancer that Babe Ruth died from. This would start a chapter in my family's life like we'd never experienced. I chose to not accept the 2nd Law of Thermodynamics.  I chose to trust instead in the healing power of Christ. One of the names of God is Jehova-Rapha, from Exodus 15. It's translated as the God who heals, restores, or makes healthful. I chose to claim this name of God. To trust in the improbable outcome.

Because the truth is, when we are filled with His Spirit, the improbable becomes the possible, and the impractical becomes the necessary.

Often we pray like this... "Lord... if it be your will, would you please heal this person?" Instead, God is calling us to claim the keys that he's given us! To take our position of authority over the chaos of this world:

"Lord, in Jesus name we know that your will is for healing in this situation! We cast out all pain and cancer, and command new life to come forth in this person!"

It has been about 7 months or so since my mother was diagnosed with cancer. I truly believe that it is because of the faith of my family, New Philly Church, and the rest of the saints that were praying with us in faith that she is now cancer free! On behalf of my mom, thank you for your prayers!

My mother is a strong woman with a lot of life left and a big impact yet to be made in the world. I believe that there is more waiting for her that she's yet to learn and even realize - that God is going to use her in mighty ways, and she will even be called to pray for others who are sick so they will be healed.

I exhort you to begin to shift your thinking. The world needs bold believers - those who know His will, and aren't afraid to pray, and trust into it...
